Ferry from Sudan to Jordan

Question: Hi, we are three vehicles driving from South Africa to Sudan, where we wish to cross over the Red Sea by ferry to either Saudi Arabia or straight to Aqaba, as we wish to explore Petra and the rest of Jordan.

We are struggling to get visas for Saudi, so our first choice is to go straight from Suakim, Sudan, to Aqaba. Is this possible without having to go via Egypt, as there are major Carnet de Passage and other paperwork complications with Egypt, which we wish to avoid?

Answer: There is no direct ferry link between Aqaba and Sudan. Your options, as you mentioned, are going through Saudi Arabia or Egypt.

You might as well try to get on a cargo ship, but this is just an idea, I don't know how viable it is.

I will post your question on my Facebook page as well, maybe someone has a better answer.

Thank you very much!
