Is Jordan pet (dog) friendly?

My family is being relocated to Aqaba for a couple of years for my husband's job. We have two dogs, german shepherds, and are wondering if it will be a problem to find a house or apartment that allows dogs.

We are thinking of having one dog stay with family but are thinking about bringing the other dog. Do you think it will be problematic?

Finding a house or apartment shouldn't be a problem, I don't think property owners would have objections for dogs.

You will probably stay in the 5th or 7th Area of Aqaba where most of the expats and affluential Jordanians live, among whom the idea of keeping dogs is getting more and more popular.

However, in general, I wouldn't describe Aqaba as "dog friendly". Arabic people are not really fond of them and the kids on the street often throw stones at dogs...
Animal rights are almost non-exitent in Jordan, unfortunately.

The only vet in Aqaba is located at the port inspecting imported livestock and not dealing with pets.

There is a vet in Amman who specalizes in pet-care and she comes to Aqaba every now and then when her services are required.

The expat community in Aqaba will help you with contacts and advice. I recommend to join the "Live in Aqaba" group on Facebook where there was already a discussion on this subject last year.
